Viewing a Fanpage in Chronological Order

Today’s Challenge: Facebook’s latest Updates to Pages…

You might have noticed some changes to your Facebook Fan Page recently. Posts on your fan page (not your personal profile) are not appearing in chronological order, and this has many people confused. Please don’t worry, Studio Two is here to help you make sense of it all:

According to Facebook, the new “popular post ranking system” is based on an “algorithm determining popular and interesting content. Factors include how many friends are commenting on a certain piece of content, who posted the content, and what type of content it is (e.g., photo, video, or status update).” Facebook ranks the “weight” of each type of content from most interesting to the least in this order:

  1. Photo Posts
  2. Video Posts
  3. Links
  4. Status Updates
  5. Posts generated by Applications.

This means that facebook is more likely to display a photo post than just a regular status update.

How do I get my Page Posts back in Chronological Order?

Facebook has recently integrated a new option on all fan pages to allow a visitor to select how they would like to view the posts. The visitor can use a drop down menu to select “Top Posts” to view posts based on what Facebook ranks as most popular or “Most Recent” which will display posts in chronological order. The problem is, Facebook has not given page administrators the option of making chronological sorting the “default” yet – we expect to see that option in coming weeks.

The new “Use Facebook as Page” option and the Facebook “Deals” are going to be interesting in the months to come, so stay tuned! At Studio Two we’re working to make sure that you’re taking advantage of all that the social media world has to offer.
